After a near visit to the ER with Ben due to breathing issues last Saturday night, Mommy thought we were for sure in the clear. Not so fast. It was MY turn!!
Coming home from our first outing (to just walk around a furniture store near our home) since being cooped up at home ALL week with illnesses, I told Mommy and Daddy, "Uh oh, my penny got stuck!" They thought I meant it was stuck somewhere in the car or had fallen, something not to get upset about. Well, then I started crying and gagging, so they realized it was actually in my throat!
Daddy pulled over immediately and thank goodness I was breathing and talking, so Mommy started to call our doctor when we spotted a fire truck pulling into McDonald's. We pulled up to it and asked the fireman who was returning his DVD what we should do. He said I would need an ambulance ride to the ER for sure, as he motioned for the other firemen to come out of the firetruck. I was breathing just fine, but they thought it could move around and cut off my air valve, so they don't take any chances in these cases.
Mommy rode with me while Daddy and my brothers followed us to the hospital. The paramedics and hospital staff were all very nice and loved my stories. I went on and on to the check-in man about my friends from preschool, Drew and Lucas, then started listing neighborhood kids, like Big Tyler and Little Tyler, Christopher, Katie, and Little Emily. Mommy explained that Emily is four years older than me, but the youngest in her family. He thought that was hilarious.
Anyway, there was a debate (not that it really mattered) about whether it was a dime or penny I had swallowed. Mommy and Daddy agree that it was a dime because it was silver like the bars on my hospital bed. The x-ray showed that it was in my stomach on the left side. (It's hard to see in the blurry picture, but it's in there.)
I was very good during my brief two hour visit and even got to watch 102 Dalmations while I waited. I mostly clung onto my surfer boy doll (that we have now nicknamed Copper) when I got a little nervous, like during the x-ray. My expression was priceless when Mommy explained how it would come out. I can't wait!
